PART 2: PREPARING TO FACE YOUR FEARS

Part 1 built the vocabulary — triggers, avoidance, habituation, and worry as a compulsion. Part 2 turns to treatment: what a comprehensive plan contains, and how to prepare for exposure.

This opener is navigation, not manuscript text. In Workbook Revision #2, Part 2 is a single line — the part title above — followed straight away by Chapter 5. Everything else on this page was added for the web edition and can be cut or rewritten without touching the book.

Chapter 5

Comprehensive Approach for Effective Treatment

Chapter 5 runs to about 6,350 words — more than Chapters 1 to 4 put together — and carries fourteen subheadings and four exercises. It is published here as four pages, split along the subheading groups the manuscript already has. Nothing is abridged.

On to Part 3

Chapter 5 is the whole of Part 2 — the part title, then one long chapter, then Part 3 begins. So this part is complete here.

Part 3, “Facing Your Fears Using Imaginal and In Vivo Exposure,” is where the preparation turns into the work: writing your fears out until they lose their charge in Chapter 6, meeting them in the world in Chapter 7, and changing the thinking underneath them in Chapter 8. It is published now.
